slight break in alphabet

So last night I drove 2.5 hours (one way) with a friend to go see Avenged Sevenfold in concert. Needless to say, it was intense. We were on the floor and there were pits everywhere. I'll have a full post later about the experience.

E is for Everlong

Hello
I've waited here for you
Everlong

Tonight
I throw myself into
And out of the red, out of her head she sang

Come down
And waste away with me
Down with me

Slow how
You wanted it to be
I'm over my head, out of her head she sang

And I wonder
When I sing along with you
If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again

The only thing I'll ever ask of you
You've got to promise not to stop when I say when
She sang

Breathe out
So I could breathe you in
Hold you in

And now
I know you've always been
Out of your head, out of my head I sang

And I wonder
When I sing along with you
If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again

The only thing I'll ever ask of you
You've got to promise not to stop when I say when
She sang

And I wonder
If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again

The only thing I'll ever ask of you
You've got to promise not to stop when I say when

So this is Everlong by the Foo Fighters. I honestly love this song. Except for the fact it is in drop D.

This is from the Color and the Shape album, which is basically dedicated to explaining an entire relationship with it's ups and downs. I find it to be not only touching, but strangely romantic and haunting.

The guitars, bass, and drums are amazing in this song. It is almost constant playing for the guitar, a decent, but slightly hidden bassline, and a killer drum beat. It is not as metal as the previous songs (except maybe Aqualung), but it is still an amazing song.

D is for Down with the Sickness

Drowning deep in my sea of loathing
Broken your servant I kneel
It seems what's left of my human side
Is slowly changing in me

Looking at my own reflection
When suddenly it changes
Violently it changes (oh no)
There is no turning back now
You've woken up the demon in me

Get up, come on get down with the sickness
Open up your hate, and let it flow into me
You mother get up
You *****r get up
Madness is the gift, that has been given to me

I can see inside you, the sickness is rising
Don't try to deny what you feel
It seems that all that was good has died
And is decaying in me

It seems you're having some trouble
In dealing with these changes
Living with these changes (oh no)
The world is a scary place
Now that you've woken up the demon in me

(And when I dream)
No mommy, don't do it again
Don't do it again
I'll be a good boy
I'll be a good boy, I promise
No mommy don't hit me
Why did you have to hit me like that
Why did you have to be such a *****
Why don't you,
Why don't you **** off and die
Why can't you just **** off and die
Why can't you just leave here and die
Never stick your hand in my face again *****
**** YOU
I don't need this s***
You stupid sadistic abusive******g w****
How would you have to see how it feels mommy
Here it comes, get ready to die

So, obviously, I had to censor this one. This is a classic by Disturbed, a nu-metal band. I like this song a lot, but it is in C# standard...(it can be played in drop D if needed). Either way, it is a fun song to play.

Disturbed often has violent and repressed lyrics, and this is no exception. If you've ever heard them, you should know what to expect. The gutteral and melodic sounds coupled with the interesting riffs really make this song catchy (if you like metal.) Personally, I do.

B is for Beast and the Harlot

This shining city built of gold, a far cry from innocence
There's more than meets the eye round here look to the waters of the deep.
A city of evil
There sat a seven-headed beast, ten horns raised from his head
Symbolic woman sits on his thrown but hatred strips her and leaves her naked.
The Beast and the Harlot

*She's a dwelling place for demons, she's a cage for every unclean spirit every filthy bird
and makes us drink the poisoned wine to fornicating with our kings.
Fallen now is Babylon the Great.

The city dressed in jewels and gold, fine linen, Myrrh and pearls
Her plagues will come all at once as her mourners watch her burn.
Destroyed in an hour
Merchants and captains of the world, sailors navigators too
Will weep and mourn this loss with her sins piled to the sky
The Beast and the Harlot.

*

The day has come for all us sinners,
If your not a servant you'll be struck to the ground.
Flee the burning, greedy city,
Looking back on her to see there's nothin' around.

I don't believe in fairytales and no one wants to go to Hell,
We've made the wrong decision and it's easy to see.
Now if you wanna serve above or be a king below with us,
Your welcome to the city where your future is set forever.

*

This is the second letter of the alphabet. It's an easy way for me to write every single day. This is probably the first metal song I learned on my bass. In fact, it was my old Yamaha that I played. Thankfully, this song is is standard tuning. I must say, I appreciate guitar hero for opening my mind and ears to different music. It's one thing that I can play guitar hero well; it's a special thing that I can play bass well.

The Beast and the Harlot is a good song. I like the lyrics and vocal harmonies of a7x a lot, mostly because all five members will harmonize while playing their respective instruments (singer, guitars, bass, drums). This song is more science fiction than some of their other works (Almost Easy, Gunslinger, Bat Country, etc) but it is still a good song IMO.

A is for Aqualung

Sitting on a park bench
eyeing up little girls
with bad intent.
Snot running down his nose
greasy fingers smearing shabby clothes.
Drying in the cold sun
Watching as the frilly panties run.
Feeling like a dead duck
spitting out pieces of his broken luck.
Sun streaking cold
an old man wandering lonely.
Taking time
the only way he knows.
Leg hurting bad,
as he bends to pick a dog end
goes down to a bog to
warm his feet.
Feeling alone
the army's up the rode
salvation a la mode and
a cup of tea.
Aqualung my friend
don't start away uneasy
you poor old sod
you see it's only me.
Do you still remember
December's foggy freeze
when the ice that
clings on to your beard is
screaming agony.
And you snatch your rattling last breaths
with deep-sea diver sounds,
and the flowers bloom like
madness in the spring.

These are the lyrics to Jethro Tull's Aqualung. I've decided to start writing about pieces of music that I like, are important to me, or just plain interesting. Starting with A.

I first heard this song on RB2, but I fell in love with it. It is about a homeless man and what has happened with his life; Aqualung is a reference to the sounds he is thought to make as he breathes. The music is sad, somber, and beautiful. It emphasizes a more acoustic feeling mixed in with accented electric guitars.

The thing I note about this is how I feel we should help the poor. We've all had bad times, and this song shows how bad things can be. But we should be optimistic.
