I'm alive!

So yeah. No posts in a long time....But all that is ok. Here's a run down of my life:
1) Marching Band
2) Marching Band
3) Senior Year classes
4) Family and Girlfriend
5) Marching Band
6) Guitar Hero III

First off, the most popular item on my list.
Marching Band: This was my last year marching in my school's Marching Band. It truly has been a very rewarding experience these past 4 years. In case you, reader, don't know, I [was] the drill leader for the low reed section. I had to march 4 shows over 4 years, marching and playing my Baritone Saxophone. That's quite a feat. This past marching season, all the seniors rejoiced as we took Grand Champions at the Duncanville Marching Festival. Ah well, Wake will be happy as I join them next year.

Third
Senior year. Many have taken this as a slack off year to relax before college and the real world. Many of my friends [myself included] have not. Instead, we have a shitload of hard classes, many of them college level. That [kinda] helps with the whole "no posting in a while" idea.

Fourth
Family and friends. I need time with people I probably won't see very much of next year. It's a bit sad, but we all have to leave the nest, so to speak. I'll miss all of you that I know reading this right now. I'll be back around Christmas time and maybe Thanksgiving. Speaking of,

Happy Thanksgiving!

Sixth
GUITAR HERO III. I bought this game the day it came out and beat expert mode about three days later. : D I'm still working on some songs, especially Through the Fire and Flames. Of course, I'm still learning how to play my actual Bass Guitar. So, pretty busy in the music department.

Cam, out.

APOCALYPSE

Maugan Ra, Phoenix Lord of Dark Reapers: $22
Tyranid Endless Swarm: $175
Tyranid Mycetic Assault: $175
Christmas shopping done months in advance: Priceless
For everything money can't buy, that's life.
For everything else, there's Warhammer 40,000.

So that's what I just ordered online. I wanted the "Gamers-Edition Apocalypse" with full backpack and other goodies but that's not online as of now/is sold out/might be at the release parties at D.Lair and Thor'sH. later this month.
Basically, I have a decent sized tyranid army for fun/competitive play. It will round out my army with troops and heavy support/elite. I'm really looking forward to this. Maugan Ra will be used as my HQ for my Eldar for a while, seeing as how beastly he is nowadays.

I am in.

So I haven't posted in a while. Sorry. My internet has been kinda fidgety/school has taken up a lot of my time. Senior year in High School can sometimes be a bitch. That's ok. Tuesday, yes this past tuesday, I got my letter from Wake Forest University up in Winston-Salem, North Carolina that I've been accepted into the University for next fall (which is what I planned on!). This makes me EXTREMELY happy for two [main] reasons: 1) I AM IN!!!!!! and 2) I don't have to worry about appling to 15+ colleges with the rest of my senior class. That's all for now; Marching Band practice in the morning. Woo.

For the Win...

On Saturday, D.Lair had a 3k point megabattle tournament. It turned out to be me and another player only. Since his army wasn't painted and mine was, he wasn't able to take 1st place. We had a very close game, but again, I won due to my painting. So since GW sponsers us now, I nabbed $105 worth of free models for my army. I finished this beastie yesterday and now can post pics of it since we have a new camera, even if it is magnified about 1000X. He isn't fully finished, I need to go back and fix some spots and highlight others, but he is blog worthy. Enjoy. : D

It's been a month and a few days...

...since I last posted. I know, I know, harp my ass for being lazy. But I really haven't. A lot has happened since then. First off,

End of July:

Harlequins
- mostly redone. I've put diamond patterns on them, but haven't gotten around to finishing/highlighting them and stuff.
NYLF/MED - This was a 10 day long camp I went to from July 22 to August 1st. It was amazing. It is a pre-doctoral camp and I was able to talk to many doctors, med students, residents, see two surgeries [I was in the operating room!!!], get a FREE MRI, meet and greet peeps that will chill with me later this year, and just have a blast overall. Add a comment if you want me to go into more detail. Trust me, I can. : D

August:

Band Camp - It has started. For the past two weeks, I've been out in the hot sun on a newly repaved ass-fault parking lot with my big ol' 30 lbs-ish baritone saxophone teaching the freshman and sophomores how to march with their tenor saxophones and how to do it well. I'm just a beast like that.
School - Starts on Monday, August 27th. Not looking forward to not being able to sleep in. I am looking forward to my full 8 class schedule [all AP classes...woo-hoo], me being able to leave campus and go eat at home, and, of course, being a SENIOR!!!!!

Things for the future:
1) I am currently working on my second Lictor. He is going to be black and gold [brazen brass] and camouflaged on pieces of my old monolith. Yeah, he's that badass.
2) My letter of acceptance/rejection [hopefully acceptance] to
Wake Forest University
up in North Carolina. My early decision application is being reviewed and will be sent around September 15 -22.
3) Painting. I've been going to tournaments and have won some which entitles me to a consolation prize. I've picked up some tyranid warriors. Next up: Battle Box.

That's all for now.

We'll Be Back...Eventually...

Before my older Ford Explorer fried its engine, I had a Necron army. It was only 1963 points mostly due to a monolith, but I abbandoned it after a while [Eldar were to be re-vamped soon]. It ended up in a small box in the back of my car and was partially destroyed. Currently, 4 necron warriors lost their "green glow rods," 3 warriors are missing heads, 1 destroyer is destroyed, 1 destroyer is missing a head, 2 wraiths are dismembered [arms and lower tail], 2 destroyers are missing their guns, 6 warriors are split at the torso, and...one monolith is in pieces. Literally. But, most of the army is intact. I will need to seriously fix them, and finish some of my eldar conversions / WIP units.

Without further ado, pictures.

Destroyers and Warriors. The one that was destroyed is replaced with a new, still plastic, sprue.

Wraiths and the "Wraithlord"

The full carnage.

The one TRUE way to destroy a monolith...*sniff*...

WIIMOTE MOUSE!

As a friend informs me "that's so four months ago," I've connected my Wii's remote control to my computer via the bluetooth and now can use it as a substitute mouse and what not. It's pretty freakin' sweet as Peter Griffon would say.
Word.

Leadership 9!

So I've just had an epiphany. In the previous Eldar Codex, all basic troops [aspect warriors included] had a base leadership value of 8. The Exarch would increase this to a mighty leadership of 9. Until this wee hour of the morning, I assumed the aspect warriors still had leadership 8 base. That is, until I was skimming over the rules for a diresword and happened to glance that the aspect warriors had leadership 9 base. A past game for me could have used this base leadership 9 for when under half strength I rolled an 8 twice for a moral check. I figured that leadership 7 = no pass. Man. I've felt like my strongest craftworld warriors are pansy space elves. I know now that they're not. [I have a feeling I will get a comment yelling that they are.]
Time to look over my codex to see what else I've missed. Anyone care to point out a few misconceptions? Such as the Harlequins not being able to be targeted by ordenance or anything more than 2d6 x2 inches away?

Eldar Choices

Anyone who has looked over the eldar codex has noticed at least one thing: We have a surplus of units in each catagory. In the old codex, one could avoid having such strong competition for elite or heavy support slots by using a craftworld to mess around with the force organization chart. In the new codex, the "Craftworld Eldar" codex is null and void. Which poses a slight problem for me. Especially under heavy support. I have too many eldar units to effectively build one balanced list. With 3 wraithlords, 2 falcons, one fire prism, 2 dark reaper units, and 3 war walkers, I find it hard to find a perfect harmony of heavy support to compliment the rest of my force. Sure, I have options, but it might be hard to locate that "sweet spot" for multiple units to work in PERFECT tandem. Units can always work together, now I just need a list that can compliment itself but not fall apart if one or two units are lost.

New List

So here is my final and revised list. It is suited for a balanced fight and WILL NOT suffer due to reserves again. Autarch will help with that. : D

Heavy Support:
5 Dark Reapers with Exarch [EML and Fast shot] 217

Fire Prism – Holo-field 150

Fire Prism – Holo-field 150

The list taps in at just under 2k points. Can't really do much with 8 or so points left over. The only "big" change I've made is to swap the dragons for 2 vypers. However, this leaves me slightly lacking in the AT department. My concern is that my prisms might be glanced and vulnerable. The configuration as the previous list is the same, just the vypers help with the flankers now and give the opponent something else to worry about.
-Rayne

Yes yes, Updated.

So the past tuesday [a week ago] I went to game night with my friend. But no one showed up. I'm guessing it was due to summer. This past saturday, the tournament at D.Lair was cancelled, but we could have free play. Again, no one showed up. Oh well, my friend and I got to go spend the night at my house on lake LBJ.
This week, I got a game in on tuesday. It was pretty good, I lost, but was still fun. I'm liking my new list alot. My downfalls were two things:
1) Reserves. Wasn't sure exactly as to how it worked. Apparently, you can move after you move on the board...need clarification on that topic.
2) Combined firepower against me brought my list down quickly.

Weekly updates continue.

Weekly Updates

So. I've decided to actually pay attention to my blog and update it weekly. I mean, it is a blog afterall. Hold me true to this, since I'll be going to game nights now and I will have stuff to post. Some Pictures will be up of my stuff i've painted and I'll have some tactics up soon as well.

Tactics

We have a few units for a few roles. Here are the buzzwords and the units that fulfill the role.

Firebase: Composed of my Heavy section. With 2 Fire Prisms to take over multiple lanes of fire, many enemies will be herded to another sector. The Reapers are there to either a) Be shot at while in cover or b) Take on another lane of fire. This is a very long range offensive firebase that so far has worked wonders.

Offensive block: Made up of my two Dire Avenger squads. These are the main hitters of my list and will be searching for fights. They work in tandem, hugging cover and giving each other support in either shooting or assault.

Fast Block: This block is of my Striking Scorpions and Warp Spiders. The Scorpions infiltrate to a prime position and are the main assault unit to be backed by the Shimmershield/Defend Avengers. The Spiders will deep-strike and be supported by the Twin Catapults/Bladestorm Avengers. These four units can QUICKLY decimate opposing squads.

Flanking Block: Utilizing the Autarch and Shining Spears, the flanking block is used to take down the command squads from hell, the monstrous creatures, greater daemons, and other big nasty stuff or just to do some quick mop up of weakened units. Very hard hitters, especially with their improved toughness conferred from the bikes.

Support Block: The Farseer and Harlequin Troupe both fulfill supporting roles by hanging out by the Reapers. The idea is to have the Harlequins have a 24” pinning zone and be very effective counter chargers, especially with their flipbelts and Dance of Death special rules. The Farseer guides the reapers [hopefully not frying herself] while dooming an enemy. Fortune is there to solidify the Harlequin’s save when they charge into close combat.

Tank Hunters: The smallest block. The Fire Dragons are there to fill in the last 113 points and be significant enough to threaten an opponent, but not worth shooting due to the low point cost and long walk towards the enemy. They will be a “surprise!” unit, taking out a tank quickly or rushing forward on the last turn of the game to claim an objective.

This list is exactly 2k points and I've used it in a three-way free for all. It actually stood its ground and seems to be an effective build.

Update

So I've not posted in a while. And, a lot has happened.
1) School's out for the summer. School's out forever...but not really. It's nice to have time to relax and do what I want whenever.
2) I've spent time with my friends, family, girlfriend, gaming group, and other peeps that I haven't had time to spend with in a while.
3) Marching season will start soon. Woo-hoo!
4) Guitar Hero II is amazing.
5) I got off my lazy ass and painted.
Here are things I've painted:
4 Harlequins
1 Death Jester [revisted - a few touch ups and whatnot]
8 Dire Avengers [squad is finished]
3 Shining Spears including Exarch [need to go back for details ad highlighting]
Autarch [He is no longer "dragging" his jetbike, rather is mounted on a Vyper]
Upper body of my third Dire Avenger Exarch [hint hint?]
Thing left to paint:
1 Shadowseer [Bought her yesterday (Saturday - it's 1:26 am Sunday)]
Autarch's Vyper
5 Pathfinders [If I REALLY need to use them again]

I'll have my new list up shortly. It's pretty nice I'll admit, and might write some tactics on the Eldar myself. Check Bell of Lost Souls for other tactics.

Harlequins

I went to D.lair literally yesterday, looking to buy me 4 Harlequins, a Death Jester, and a Shadow seer. To my luck, I got the harlies and the DJ, but, alas, the shadow seer evaded my purchase. :*(

HOWEVER, I spent 3 hours painting my DJ and he's probably the best one I've painted so far.

: D

Now to get to work on my 4 quins...

6 Fire Dragons [including Exarch]
1 Lictor [See above...]
Highlight ALL of my Eldar...they were my first army after all... : D
Buy some new scorpions and paint them.

Try to get some games in!

YA-HA!

Yes, the title refers to an Anime show. 5 points to who gets it. : D
Anyway, it seems that Blogger has been down for a little bit, but that's ok.
LOTS have happened since I last posted.
1) Tournament pictures have NOT been uploaded yet, so battle reports post poned!
2) Saturday, March 10. I bought a Lictor for my 500 point 2v2 tournament. I started painting him that night, but...
3) Sunday morning I left for Colorado and spent my spring break SnowBlading! It was amazing, but the mountain had no new powder...it was kinda Icy but still good.
4) I finished painting my lictor monday night. The first chance I actually got to paint him.

Now, for this combat team patrol, I WILL have battle reports up ASAP and PICTURES as well, mostly because I will be bringing my own camera to the tourny. : D

On a side note, I will be having a 2k tourny this Saturday with my Eldar. That should be fun and I might bring the camera...if I remember...

Tournament Today.

So I've not posted in a while. Life has caught up to me. Go figure. : D
There was a 1500 point, 4 game, 10 am - 8:30 pm tournament today. Thanks to my suggestion, we had it 4 games, instead of our usual three. Anyway, I went and had a blast. I ended up with having the buy [there was 7 peeps there] for the third game, but walked away with $15 and 3rd place overall / best painted...even though there were better painted armies...and 6 of my models weren't fully painted....I guess it was because I played phenomonally. : D

Will post a longer snippette of the tournament later and some pictures.

Un nuevo coche

Estoy muy feliz ahora porque hoy es el dia de que soy una espalda mojada.
: D
Basically, my old car died about 2 weeks ago. And I've been without sufficient transportation for a while now. 40k night/tournament = borrowed my mom's car. School = hitch a ride with mom.
Finally, today we get the call that the car we designed/ordered came in. I now have a pimped Scion tC, 2007 model. I am very happy and very, very, VERY thankful to my parents and God for blessing me with this. I might have gotten a new car for college, but thanks to the old one almost having complete combustion in the engine [aka: exploding] I got a new car today.

Oh, I also got a box of Dire Avengers. I need to paint them and make a "Shimmershield/Defend" exarch. Expect more blurbs about painting and modeling and other such things I need to do.
Such as:
2 Dark Reapers
1 Warp Spider Exarch w/Spinnerette Rifle
6 Fire Dragons w/Exarch [Dragon's Breath Flamer]
5 Howling Banshees w/Exarch [Mirror Swords]
3 Shining Spears w/Exarch [Starlance]
10 Dire Avengers w/Exarch [Power Weapon/Shimmershield]
5 Pathfinders.
That should be it, minus the touchups on some of my other stuff.

TOURNAMENT...but not THAT exciting...

Over this past Saturday, I attended a tournament at Dragon's Lair and had my 4th, 5th, and 6th game with the new Eldar codex. I had one of the 3 fully painted armies at the tournament. There was a total of 6 people there. Whoo.

My first game was good, vs. my old rival [Jason] who plays a Mech. IG list. It was a long and drawn out battle, fun and very close. It ended with me being crushingly defeated.

2nd game. Game vs. another long time rival [Tib] who was playing his Tau. I made MANY mistakes in this game and it ended with me conceding. I killed a pathfinder squad, half of a firewarrior squad and 3 stealthsuits. He left me with 3 Exarchs [lieutenants] and an immobilized Falcon [my Gunship...].

3rd game. Game vs. ANOTHER rival [Sherman], who has recently traded in his Ork army for a Witch Hunters army. It was an intense battle, with me taking the lead slightly in points [considering a 396 squad makes up most of my points...] and resulting in a Draw.

Odd things about this tournament:
1) I fought all old opponents, many good friends. The 2 other "new" people I never did fight / really meet.
2) Game 1 = Warp Spiders roll a 10" deviation on deep strike. Off the board by 0.5"
Game 2 = Warp Spiders roll a 9" deviation on deep strike. Off the board by 0.25"
Game 3 = Warp Spiders come on and destroy a Chimera. Vindicare Assassain kills exarch and pins them.
Warp Spiders...Good unit, Bad day....
3) I took 6th place with a score of 69.6. I could have raised this if I had not forgot my "fluff" at home and may have taken 3rd.

I did pick up a box of 10 Dire Avengers and will have more points to play with soon in my new army lists.
